Heating & Air Conditioning Repair
Heat that works in January and A/C that works in July.
In Mid-Michigan, a working heater and defroster are a safety issue, not just comfort. If your windshield will not clear on a frosty morning, or the heat blows lukewarm, the cause is often in the cooling system: low coolant, a stuck thermostat, a clogged heater core, or a blend door actuator that no longer moves.
- Checking coolant level and thermostat operation for heat complaints
- Testing blower motor
- Checking blend door and mode door operation
- Measuring A/C system pressures and checking for leaks
Common symptoms
- Heater blows cold or lukewarm air
- Windshield defroster is slow to clear
- A/C blows warm or only cool, not cold
- Air only comes out of one vent or will not change direction
- Clicking behind the dashboard when changing settings
Air conditioning problems are usually a refrigerant leak, a failing compressor or clutch, an electrical fault, or a blocked condenser. Simply adding refrigerant without finding the leak tends to be a short-lived fix, so we look for the cause first.
We check temperatures, controls, airflow, and system pressures as appropriate for your vehicle, then explain what is wrong and quote the repair.
Every appointment is confirmed with a $100 booking/diagnostic payment (not credited toward repairs). If the cause isn’t known yet, the visit is used to diagnose it; the repair is quoted for your approval.
Repair labor is $100 per hour for every kind of repair — engine, transmission, electrical, heating and air conditioning, suspension, brakes and everything else. No higher specialty rate and no minimum labor charge. Labor hours are estimated for your specific vehicle and repair and shown on your written estimate before any work starts; we don’t sell flat-rate job prices.
A/C vent temperature
Weak, warm airflow compared with strong, cold airflow after A/C service.
Signs you may need this

- Windshield defroster is slow to clear
- A/C blows warm or only cool, not cold
- Air only comes out of one vent or will not change direction
- Clicking behind the dashboard when changing settings
- Sweet smell inside the car or fogging windows
- Blower works only on certain speeds
What the service may involve
- Checking coolant level and thermostat operation for heat complaints
- Testing blower motor, resistor, and controls
- Checking blend door and mode door operation
- Measuring A/C system pressures and checking for leaks
- Inspecting compressor, clutch, condenser, and related wiring
- Repairing or replacing failed components if you approve
Information to have ready
- Year, make, model, and mileage
- Whether the problem is heat, A/C, airflow, or all three
- Whether you have single or dual-zone climate control
- Any recent coolant leaks or A/C recharges
Questions
Is there a fee to check my heat or A/C?
If the cause is not obvious and the system needs to be diagnosed, diagnostic services involve a $100 diagnostic fee, which is not credited toward the cost of subsequent repairs. Simple, visible issues are just quoted. We let you know which applies upfront.
Can you just recharge my A/C?
An A/C system is sealed, so low refrigerant means there is a leak. We recommend finding the leak first; otherwise the recharge usually does not last.
Why does my heat only work while driving?
That can point to low coolant, air in the cooling system, or a weak water pump. It is worth checking soon, since low coolant can also lead to overheating.
